MARINE

This is the shore, bathed by the waves that find their way here from all around the globe.
This is the beach, where as a lonely and dreamy adolescent, I used to sit at night, staring at the endless starry skies above: wondering, meditating, asking where love could be found, where hope keeps its secret abode, where faith can be discovered, and how many trials were needed to find out, how long it would take, how much sorrow and how many traumas had to be encountered before one could say: here I am; I have arrived; my experiences have been full and deep, the roads I have travelled have been long and dangerous. When I shall have walked up and down along the highways of this whole wide world, will I then be granted the grace of a glimpse of the truth?
This is the sand, where I have lied in the sun, nourishing my fantasies and my imagination; where at night I would fall asleep, dreaming about love.
This is the coastline, stretching for innumerable miles, where I wandered contemplating the universe, examining nature, investigating humanity, exploring my soul.
This is the strand, where twenty years later, I come to speak to you, on the other side of this eventful Europe; in the middle of a long summer night, whose silence is punctually broken by the crying and sweet moans of the rolling waves.
And I can see you in front of me, I can smell your perfume, I get lost in your eyes, as beautiful, as deep as this sea.
I caress your body, I can sense your skin, I run my fingers through your soft long hair, I tell you of love that endures and conquers all; of our souls that melt into one, of the infinity of my feelings for you, of the tenderness that my emotions arouse in me when I think of you, talk to you, embrace you, telling you of how much I miss you, declaring undying love and devotion, confessing all my passion, promising you the world, announcing to these boundless waters, this eternal, shining night sky, to the everlasting glory of God, that no matter how distant: we are together; no matter how long this separation: we belong to each other; no matter what might ever happen: we are meant to be beside one another, now, tomorrow, always.

This is the shore, this is the beach, these are the waves where I have signalled goodbyes,
a long time ago, to the ships of my hopes, of my dreams, of my melancholy, bound for futures unknown, to travel, perhaps, for evermore.
This is the shore, the beach, the waves, where tonight the flagship is landing, bringing to me the long awaited cargo of your love.
